TOP 5 FACTS THAT YOU THOUGHT WERE TRUE | BUT AREN’T
- Short-Term Memory Myth of Goldfish
The old saying is “you have the memory of a goldfish”, that means you have 3-second old short-term memory. According to new research, this is absolutely false. Researchers have researched that some goldfish retain their memory even as much as a year. They have researched this by teaching some goldfish to play fetch or sometimes engage the goldfish in rounds of soccer; many goldfishes retaining their memories as much as a year later on how to do these things. Moreover, in another research, researchers trained some goldfish to hear a sound of feeding time, and after that, the researchers released them into the sea. Half a year later, the researchers played the same feeding sound over a speaker and essentially all the fish swam back to the place where they were released a half year ago.
- Never Wake a Sleepwalker Myth
It has always been the golden rule that never wakes someone who is sleepwalking, but my friends this is completely wrong. A sleepwalker is in a slow wave sleep stage of low consciousness, mostly performs repetitive tasks. It might be confusing the sleepwalker when you wake him up, but before they hurt themselves (or sometimes others) you’re better off doing that. Besides, you can also guide them back to the bed. So, always keep in mind that whenever a person is sleepwalking, either you’ve to wake him up or you might also guide him back to the bed.
- Original Purpose of Color Changing by Chameleon
Most of the people believe that a chameleon change their color to blend into their surroundings, but this normally isn’t true. The real purpose of color changing by chameleon was for social reasons. When angered, they turn dark, and when they are trying to impress females they turn light. Only a few species of chameleon will indeed change color for camouflage, but most of the species of chameleons only do this based on their emotions.
- Octopus Has 8 Legs Myth
You might have an impression that an octopus has 8 legs because the Latin prefix “Octo” which means eight. But in reality, an octopus has only 2 legs. They only use their back two to propel themselves along the seafloor, while they use their remaining 6 tentacles (0fficially classified as arms) for feeding. Generally, in the field of marine biology, now an octopus is known as a two-legged, six-armed animal. Since the name has been approximately for so long, it’d be silly to change it. So, that’s why the name of an octopus is still the same.
- One Day Life Span of Mayflies Myth
Mostly it is claimed that the mayfly only lives for one day. And many use the mayflies as an example to show the importance of time. But in reality, most of the mayflies live from between minutes and an entire week, and that is only one part of their life cycle. Also, they spent months to years as an aquatic swimming around, waiting to grow their wings. Moreover, the mayflies hatch in a giant population altogether, dance around and also mate continuously as well. Besides, some of them witnessed as a tourist attraction or even as a delicacy.
